Kathmandu [Nepal], August 17 – Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday for a four-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Nepali Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel.
Nepali Army Vice Chief Lieutenant General Pradeep Jung KC and other senior officers welcomed General Seth at Tribhuvan International Airport after he arrived on an Air India flight at 4:15 pm.
Nepali Army spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet said President Ramchandra Paudel will confer the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on Seth at a special ceremony at the President’s Office on Monday.
The honorary rank is part of a longstanding tradition between Nepal and India that reflects the close military relationship, mutual respect and friendship between the two countries.
The tradition began in 1950 when Nepal started conferring the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on the Chief of the Indian Army. Similarly the Chief of the Nepali Army has been awarded the honorary rank of General in the Indian Army.
During his visit, General Seth is expected to engage with senior Nepali officials and military leadership. His visit comes shortly after he assumed office as Chief of the Indian Army on June 30 this year, underscoring the continued institutional ties between the two armies.
