Dr Rawal had contested with KP Sharma Oli in the presidential race in the recently-held 10th National Congress of UML. Rawal was defeated in the election. CPN (UML’s general-secretary Shanker Pokharel said the party has designated him as a central advisory member after he remained reluctant to become a candidate for central member despite filing candidacy for chair as per the party statute. Chair Oli and Dr Rawal would consult to finalize added responsibility to Rawal.
