In the vote counting that concluded on Sunday, Gauchan was declared the winner of Chairperson post. He got 1,144 votes, defeating his closest competitor Nepali Congress’ Bal Kumari Sherchan who collected 1,055. Likewise, Nepali Congress’ Somal Hirachan won in the Vice-Chairperson post by securing 1,122 votes. Sumita Sherpa from CPN (UML) conceded defeat to Hirachan by a margin of 32 votes. Sherpa received 1,080 votes. Thasang Rural Municipality had 2,747 voters enlisted. Among them, 2,240 cast their ballots in the May 13 local election.
