40 employees including Kathmandu’s CDO to receive awards on the occasion of ‘Civil Service Day’

But, the government could not find any employee to confer ‘Best Employee Award’


KATHMANDU- The government has announced three dozen civil servants who will receive awards on the occasion of 17th Civil Employees Day for their ‘outstanding’ contribution and performance in the administrative services.

According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFGA), 40 government employees will receive the government reward.

While the government is honoring 10 employees with the ‘Excellent Civil Service Award,’ 30 civil servants have bagged ‘Civil Service Award’ this year on the occasion of the annual ‘Civil Service Day’ that is celebrated on September 7.

However, the government did not confer the ‘Best Civil Service Award’ this year. According to a source at the Ministry, it could not find any employee who meets the criteria to receive the award.   

Basanta Adhikari, the ministry’s spokesperson, said that the government did not announce the name of ‘Best Civil Service Award’ as the committee formed to recommend the candidates for the award did not forward any name.   

Those bagging the ‘Excellent Service Award’ are Sushil Kumar Lamsal, a joint secretary at the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, Man Bahadur Aryal, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, and Prakash Joshi, the Survey Department’s Director General.

Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer Janak Raj Dahal, MoFGA’s under secretary Dilaram Panthi, Project Implementation Directorate’s Sutat Kumar Bam and Public Service Commission’s Taam Lal Pandey are other recipients of the award. Subhash Shrestha of Kamal Rural Municipality in Jhapa, Usha Devi Devkota (Shukra Raj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital) and Dhan Bahadur Lama (Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers) have also been declared as awardees for the excellent civil service awards.

Similarly, the government has announced the name of 30 staff for ‘Civil Service Award.’ Raghu Ram Bista (Ministry of Health and Population), Khom Raj Koirala (National Planning Commission) and Roshani Devi Karki (Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens), among other employees, are also receiving the ‘Civil Service Award.’ 

Adhikari, the ministry’s spokesperson, said that the recipients will be handed over the award by organizing a ceremony after the pandemic subsides.

Recipients of ‘Excellent Service Award’ will be provided a cash prize of Rs 100,000 while ‘Civil Service Award’ carries a purse of Rs 50,000.
