Gautam reached the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, and filed her candidacy to the post. Chief Whip of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Dev Prasad Gurung, proposed the candidacy of Gautam while Laxmi Kumari Chaudhary of the CPN (Unified Socialist) seconded it. The post of deputy-speaker of the HoR has remained vacant since long. Gautam filed her candidacy as the common candidate of the ruling coalition.
