KATHMANDU – The Kathmandu District Court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against Captain of the Nepal national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, who has been accused of rape.
The District Police Range, Kathmandu, in a notice on Thursday, confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant for further investigation into the matter. Lamichhane is currently outside Nepal to play cricket match.
Clause 219 (2) of the Criminal Code, 2074 considers sexual relationship with a woman without her consent, and with a girl below 18 years of age as rape. According to the Clause 3 (D), raping a girl between the age of 16 and 18 is punishable by 10 to 12 years in prison.
On September 6, the 17-year-old girl filed a police case at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala, accusing Lamichhane of raping her.
On August 21, Lamichhane allegedly took the girl to various places of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur for a visit, and raped her in a hotel in Kathmandu the same night, the girl said in the police report.
The girl, a permanent resident of Aaruchaur from Syangja district, is staying in Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu. Investigation into the matter is underway, said the police.
