KATHMANDU : The Federal Parliamentary Hearing Committee has approved the names of the proposed Nepali Ambassadors to Germany, Belgium and Pakistan.
Chairman Laxman Lal Karna informed that today’s meeting of the committee unanimously approved the names of the ambassadors after taking into consideration their qualifications, capacity, experience, action plan and thinking.
At the hearing, the government recommended Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gehendra Rajbhandari to Belgium and the European Union, Tapas Adhikari to Pakistan and Ramkaji Khadka to Germany as ambassadors.
Prior to this, the committee had made it clear that should anyone not find the appointments appropriate, they should publish a notice for public information or a complaint within 10 days with clear grounds and evidence. ChairmanLaxman Lal Karna informed that no complaint has been lodged against any of the candidates except for one.
According to Chairman Karna, “[the] theoretical complaints were received through emails that were not inclusive. There was a complaint in the name of the proposed ambassador Rajbhandari linked to arrears.
At the meeting, the proposed ambassadors expressed their commitment to not violate any law while in office, and expressed their determination to serve in a responsible manner.
Stating that there is ample potential for improvement while working as an ambassador, they expressed their determination to work with an emphasis on economic diplomacy to bring as much foreign investment and assistance to Nepal as possible.
According to a constitutional provision, the President appoints an ambassador upon the recommendation of the government after the name of the proposed person is approved through a parliamentary hearing.
