DALIAN, China, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — Chinese Super League powerhouses Guangzhou Evergrande won over Shenzhen FC 3-1 while Jiangsu Suning FC edged Dalian Pro 2-1 in the third round of the 2020 Chinese Super League here on Tuesday.
Guangzhou went ahead in the 27th minute when winger Wei Shihao drove home a rebound off Shenzhen goalkeeper Guo Wei. 11 minutes later, veteran defender Zhang Linpeng made it 2-0 with a header from a corner.
Although John Mary pulled one back for Shenzhen in the 52nd minute, the former Barca midfielder Paulinho added the third for the league title contenders and brought the defending champions three wins in a row.
In the other game played on Tuesday, Jiangsu Suning edged Dalian Pro 2-1. Both sides failed to score any goal in the first half.
Jiangsu dominated the possession and broke the deadlock through Alex Teixeira’s header in the 74th minute. But Salomon Rondon equalized the score for Dalian with a similar powerful header just four minutes later.
Eder Martin calmly converted the penalty with a powerful shot to the corner in the 84th minute, continuing the league title favorites’ unbeaten record to three games in the season.
