KATHMANDU: The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has said that China and Nepal have no territorial disputes.m
In a statement issued amidst Indian media reports that China has carried out constructions on the Nepali side of Lapcha in the Humla district, Wang Xiaolong, the spokesperson of the Chinese embassy, said that such buildings mentioned by the media were on the Chinese side of the two countries’ border.
Not only did the spokesperson deny construction of the buildings on the Nepali side of the China-Nepal border as reported by Indian media, he also stated that Nepal may verify again.
“The buildings mentioned by the media have been verified to be on the Chinese side of the China-Nepal border. The Nepali side may make verification again,” said Xiaolong, in his statement. “China and Nepal have no territorial disputes. The two sides have always maintained close communication on border affairs,” he said. “China and Nepal are friendly neighbors. China has always respected Nepal’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” added the statement.
Several Indian media reports along with Namkha Rural Municipality’s Chairman Bishnu Bahadur Tamang had claimed that China has constructed nine buildings in Lapcha towards the Nepali side of the Nepal-China border.
However, the Chinese side maintained that Nepal’s territory begins one kilometer away from the area where the buildings are constructed.
In a dialogue with the Nepali side led by Humla’s Chief District Officer Chiranjibi Giri, who visited Lapcha on Saturday, the Chinese side had claimed that the area where buildings are constructed is included in its map.
Namkhal’s Chairperson Tamang said that the Chinese side barred the Nepali side from visiting the area where the buildings have been constructed.
