The cabinet meeting held this morning has decided to appoint former Finance Minister Dr Khatiwada as the ambassador to the US. Khatiwada is currently the Special Economic Advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The cabinet meeting has also decided to pick Lok Darshan Regmi, who stepped down as the Chief Secretary, as the ambassador to the United Kingdom. Similarly, the government has also nominated Nirmal Kumar Bishwokarma as the new ambassador to South Africa. All these ambassadorial nominations, however, are subject to the confirmation of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. The cabinet has also decided to appoint Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi as the new Chief Secretary of the country. The post fell vacant after Regmi resigned from the senior-most post of the bureaucracy nearly two weeks prior to the end of his five-year tenure.
