KATHMANDU – Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has expressed his full support for the decision to appoint former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as head of the interim government.
Extending advance congratulations to Karki, Bhattarai also appealed to the entire nation to cooperate with and support her.
Issuing a statement on Friday morning, Bhattarai said: “The recommendation by the young Gen Z leaders, who are determined to lead a new Nepal, to appoint former Chief Justice Sushila Karki-a capable and clean personality-as the head of the interim government is extremely positive and correct. The whole country must cooperate with and support her.
From our side too, she has our full support and advance congratulations. Now, the President-who is the upholder and guardian of the constitution-should administer her the oath of office under the current constitution, thereby swiftly ending the present uncertainty and doubts. The appropriate constitutional and democratic process for this should be decided in consultation with constitutional experts and legal scholars.”
Bhattarai also urged President Ramchandra Paudel to formally administer the oath to Karki as interim Prime Minister as soon as possible to end the ongoing confusion.
He further noted that the current situation is different from the precedent set in 2013 with the appointment of Khil Raj Regmi, and therefore asked Gen Z to act with sensitivity in this matter.
