Files blocked based on political connections will be opened: Home Minister Aryal

KATHMANDU – Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has claimed that cases stalled under political influence will see a breakthrough.

While inspecting the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police on Friday, Minister Aryal said that all investigation files blocked on the basis of political connections will be opened.

During the protest on Bhadra 24 (September 9), damage was also caused to the CIB office in Maharajgunj. After inspecting that, he said the files stalled during criminal investigations would be opened.

Directing CIB Chief Additional Inspector General (AIG) Dr. Manoj KC, Minister Aryal said,
“Matters that were blocked or disrupted on the basis of political connections will no longer remain so. The very mandate of this government is good governance. Without good governance, there cannot be peace and security. Without peace and security, elections cannot be held within six months.”

Aryal also visited the CIB to review the ongoing investigations there and instructed that they be expedited.

He stressed that in order to maintain peace, security, and good governance and successfully conduct the upcoming elections, files tied to political connections must be opened. Minister Aryal said, “Whatever was blocked or disrupted on the basis of political connections – that will no longer happen.”

Standing alongside Inspector General of Police Chandrakuber Khapung, he added, “Do not halt any investigation under any influence from now on.”

After learning about the CIB’s scope of work, Home Minister Aryal pointed out that a leap forward is necessary in matters of good governance.

He also stated that the failure to deliver good governance had caused the previous government and representatives’ roles to collapse midway.

Earlier, the then-SSP who had investigated the fake Bhutanese refugee case has now taken charge as the head of the CIB just the previous day. In the past, the previous government had sidelined KC to the Provincial Coordination Department without giving him important responsibilities, but this government has entrusted him with the responsibility of investigating major cases through the CIB itself.
