Monthly allowance of Rs.2,000 for unemployed graduates from Madhesh

KATHMANDU – The Madhesh provincial government has proposed providing a monthly unemployment allowance of 2,000 rupees to unemployed youths who have completed their bachelor’s degree.

While making the Cabinet decision public, Chief Minister Saroj Yadav said that the proposal aims to provide a subsistence allowance to 148,000 unemployed graduates aged 18 to 35 within the province, as defined by the National Youth Policy.

However, the Madhesh government is currently barred by the Supreme Court from making long-term or policy-level decisions.

Chief Minister Yadav stated that if the Supreme Court issues a favorable order, the government will turn the proposal into a policy decision and move ahead with implementation.

“Educated youths, unable to find jobs, are being drawn toward inappropriate activities. To guide them in the right direction, the government will provide a 2,000-rupee subsistence allowance,” Yadav said.

He also informed that the procedure for awarding the ‘Madhesh Ratna Honor’ to martyrs of the Madhesh Movement—the first decision of its kind—is currently in the process of being drafted.

Likewise, the Chief Minister said that the government has decided to provide 1,500 rupees per kattha as relief to farmers whose paddy crops were damaged by unseasonal rainfall.

He added that farmers who lost their paddy crops due to flooding will receive relief once they register damage details at the local level, and assistance will be provided accordingly.
