NEPSE plunges 105 points as market sees broad-based decline


KATHMANDU — The stock market witnessed a sharp decline on Sunday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index falling by 105 points to close at 2,676.

Despite the drop in the market, total turnover increased significantly. While transactions worth Rs 8.81 billion were recorded on the previous trading day, the figure rose to Rs 12.38 billion on Sunday.

Based on transaction volume, Himalayan Reinsurance, Shivam Cements, Ngadi Group, National Hydropower, and NRN Infrastructure were among the most actively traded companies.

A total of 7 companies saw their share prices rise, while 261 recorded declines during the day.

Meanwhile, the share prices of six newly listed companies surged by 10 percent. These include Reliance Spinning Mills, Super Khudi Hydropower, Ridgeline Energy, Suryakund Hydroelectric, Bhujung Hydropower, and Hotel Forest Inn.

On the other hand, the share prices of Narayani Development Bank, Himalayan Reinsurance, Bhugol Energy, Guardian Micro Life Insurance, Saptakoshi Development Bank, Pure Energy, Sanvi Energy, and Nepal Reinsurance dropped by 10 percent.

All sectoral indices ended in negative territory. The banking sector declined by 3.32 percent, development banks by 4.32 percent, finance by 3.94 percent, hotels and tourism by 3.04 percent, hydropower by 4.84 percent, investment by 3.32 percent, life insurance by 3.59 percent, manufacturing and processing by 1.33 percent, microfinance by 3.43 percent, non-life insurance by 3.86 percent, and trading by 3.58 percent.
