Disaster-induced incidents claim 23 lives in 12 days


KATHMANDU – Twenty-three people lost their lives due to the disaster-induced incidents in the first 12 days of the Nepali month of Baishakh, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said.

The NDRRMA mentioned that a total of 23 people died, 73 people were injured and 527 households were affected in 422 cases as of Saturday.

Spokesperson of NDRRMA, Shanti Mahat, said that seven people were killed in fire-related incidents happened in different districts.

Likewise, four people died after being struck by lightning, four in storms, two from high-altitude sickness and two others died in a boat capsize accident.

Similarly, one each died of snakebite, landslide, forest fire and human-wildlife conflict.

The NDRRMA stated that three people died and seven others were injured in the disaster-induced incidents in the past 24 hours.

The NDRRMA has also urged one and all to apply precautions to the disaster-induced incidents and immediately inform the nearby police stations and district administration offices in the case of such incidents.
