KATHMANDU — Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane is scheduled for a 2-day visit to India on June 1-2, following an official invitation from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
According to sources, Lamichhane is scheduled to hold high-level talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during his visit. He is also slated to meet with several other ministers of the Government of India.
Lamichhane’s sudden departure carries major strategic significance, coming just days after the official working visit of Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal was abruptly postponed. The cooling of official bilateral channels between the Balen Shah-led government and New Delhi has placed immense focus on Lamichhane’s upcoming trip.
Although neither the RSP leadership nor India’s Ministry of External Affairs has officially commented on the specific agenda of the visit, political analysts note that this invitation appears to be part of New Delhi’s broader effort to establish direct communication with key leaders within Nepal’s ruling coalition.
