Nepal stock market falls by double digits


Kathmandu – The stock market fell by double digits on the first trading day of the week with the benchmark NEPSE index declining by 16 points to close at 2,632.

Daily turnover also dropped while shares worth Rs 3.94 billion were traded in the previous session, today’s trading amounted to Rs 2.67 billion.

Among the companies traded during the day, the share prices of 29 companies increased while 240 companies posted losses. The share prices of six companies remained unchanged.

In terms of trading value, Global IME Bank and Sopan Pharmaceuticals were among the top-traded companies.

The share prices of Taksar Pikhuwakhola Hydro, Yambaling Hydropower, Snow Rivers and Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha rose by 15 percent each.

All sectoral indices closed in the red. The Non-Life Insuranceindex fell by 1.39 percent followed by Manufacturing and Processing which fell by 1.14 percent, Hotels and Tourism fell by 1.14 percent and Finance sector fell by1.13 percent.

Likewise, the Banking index declined by 0.09 percent, Development Banks by 0.79 percent, Hydropower by 0.72 percent, Life Insurance by 0.69 percent, Microfinance by 0.59 percent, Others by 0.51 percent and Trading by 0.32 percent.
