US-Iran tensions escalate following fresh military action

Tehran [Iran], July 10 – Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated as both sides claim to have carried out fresh military strikes. Iran has accused the United States of launching an airstrike near the Bushehr nuclear power plant while claiming it responded by targeting US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain with drone attacks.

According to international media reports Iran said the alleged US airstrike took place near the Bushehr nuclear power plant at around noon on Wednesday. However, no detailed information about the extent of the damage has been released.

The United States said it has carried out strikes on more than 170 military sites across Iran over the past two days. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the targets included air defence systems, drone storage facilities and coastal military positions.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that it would respond forcefully if US intervenes in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC claimed it launched missile and drone attacks on 85 US military facilities including the headquarters of the US fifth fleet in Bahrain and Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait.

CENTCOM said its operations primarily targeted Iran’s air defence systems, drone and missile storage facilities, military speedboats and military infrastructure along the coast near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran also claimed to have carried out retaliatory strikes on US military bases in Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

Iranian military officials said the attacks targeted a Patriot missile defence system in Kuwait an early warning satellite antenna in Qatar and a US military fuel storage facility in Bahrain.

However, neither the United States nor the Gulf countries involved have officially confirmed any damage or casualties resulting from the alleged attacks.

With military action continuing between the United States and Iran in recent days analysts warn that the latest developments could further destabilize the Middle East. Growing military activity around the Strait of Hormuz has also raised concerns over global energy supplies and regional stability. While both sides continue to claim they have launched attacks against each other, most of the reported incidents have yet to be independently verified.
