Nepal shares rise in pre-open trading session

Kathmandu [Nepal], July 16 – Nepal’s stock market opened higher on Thursday with the benchmark Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index rising 14.96 points during the pre-open trading session.

The index climbed to 2,605 points reflecting positive early market sentiment before the start of regular trading.

According to preliminary trading data, shares of 65 listed companies changed hands during the pre-open session. A total of around 24,000 shares were traded generating turnover of approximately Rs 110 million.

Market breadth remained positive with the share prices of 40 companies advancing while 23 companies recorded declines. The share prices of two companies remained unchanged during the session.

The pre-open session is designed to help determine the market’s opening price based on buy and sell orders placed before the regular trading period begins. Activity during this session often provides an early indication of investor sentiment although market direction can change once full trading starts.

Thursday’s gains follow renewed buying interest in the market lifting the benchmark index above the 2,600-point level during the opening phase.

The final performance of the NEPSE index and total trading turnover will depend on activity during regular market hours when significantly larger trading volumes typically determine the day’s overall trend.
