Kathmandu [Nepal] July 17 – US President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on July 19, the White House has confirmed joining football officials for the tournament’s showpiece event at New York, New Jersey stadium.
Before the final between Spain and Argentina Trump is scheduled to participate in a FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York according to the president’s official schedule released by the White House.
The White House said Trump will travel to New York for the reception before attending the World Cup final on Sunday. It described the tournament as the most watched, safest and most successful FIFA World Cup in US history adding that the event demonstrated the country’s ability to host one of the world’s largest sporting competitions.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has also confirmed that he will watch the final alongside Trump. The two are expected to jointly present the World Cup trophy to the winning team during the post-match awards ceremony.
Infantino had previously said in a recent interview that Trump would join him on the podium following the final to take part in the trophy presentation underscoring the close coordination between FIFA and the tournament hosts.
The championship match will pit Spain against Argentina, with the title decider set to take place at New York, New Jersey stadium on July 19.
The World Cup final marks the culmination of the month-long tournament and is expected to draw a global television audience in hundreds and millions, with fans around the world watching to see which nation lifts football’s most prestigious trophy.
