New Delhi [India], July 24 – The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) launched nationwide protests across India on Friday, calling on students and young people to demonstrate in solidarity with protesters who faced police action during recent demonstrations and to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The nationwide mobilisation comes a day after social activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his indefinite hunger strike over the alleged NEET examination paper leak controversy. While Wangchuk has called off his fast the CJP said its campaign for accountability in India’s education system would continue.
The protests also follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that the government would establish fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials in examination paper leak cases. Modi said a proposed anti-paper leak bill providing for stricter punishment against examination fraud would be discussed by the Union Cabinet on Friday before being introduced in Parliament.
Rejecting the government’s measures as inadequate the CJP said legislative action alone would not address the underlying problems. The organisation reiterated its demand for Pradhan’s resignation, alleging repeated examination leaks reflect a broader systemic failure requiring political accountability.
“Dharmendra Pradhan must resign. Fast-track courts are not the solution,” the CJP said in a post on X.
Party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka described the proposed fast-track courts as a distraction arguing the issue was one of governance rather than judicial delays.
Meanwhile, CJP representatives are scheduled to meet government officials later on Friday at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. The talks are expected to focus on the group’s demands for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged examination irregularities, action against those responsible for paper leaks and the resignation of the union education minister.
