Janakpur [Nepal], July 31 – Nepal’s local administration has requested the deployment of the Nepal army in Dhanusha district after imposing an indefinite curfew across several sensitive areas as authorities seek to contain escalating security concerns.
Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luitel on Thursday formally wrote to the Bishnudal Battalion in Mahendranagar, requesting military assistance to help maintain law and order. The curfew came into effect at 3:30 pm local time and will remain in force until further notice.
According to the District Administration Office, the restrictions cover multiple locations across Janakpurdham and surrounding areas including sections of Belouni Road, Hulaki Highway, Sinurjoda, Sohani, Manimandap, ISKCON Janakpur, Dudhmati Bridge, Bela Kadari Mosque, Laxminiya Bazaar and parts of Nagarain municipality.
The administration said the deployment request was made under the provisions of the Local Administration Act, 2028 after assessing the district’s security situation.
In the letter authorizing the deployment, the district administration delegated authority to the Nepal army to use the minimum necessary force to restore order. It also stated that if the situation requires security personnel have been authorized to open fire in accordance with the law.
The move comes as authorities tighten security measures in Nepal’s eastern and southeastern districts following recent unrest with officials aiming to prevent further violence and maintain public safety.
