Nepal stocks extend losing streak for fourth session


Kathmandu [Nepal], July 31 – Nepal’s stock market extended its decline for a fourth consecutive trading session on Thursday, with the benchmark NEPSE index falling 16.29 points to close at 2,672 as investor sentiment remained weak.

The latest drop has erased 62 points from the index since Monday continuing the market’s downward trend. Trading activity also slowed with daily turnover declining to Rs 3.38 billion from Rs 4.02 billion recorded in the previous session.

Share prices of 59 listed companies advanced while 206 declined and 11 remained unchanged reflecting broad-based selling pressure across the market.

Reliance Spinning Mills, Corporate Development Bank, Ridi Power, Khanikhola Hydropower, Aankhukhola Jalvidhyut and Central Finance were among the most actively traded stocks by transaction value.

Everest Color posted the session’s biggest gain rising 15% while Kalinchok Hydropower recorded the steepest decline falling 15%.

All sectoral indices closed lower with development banks and hydropower leading losses each dropping more than 1% underscoring continued weakness across Nepal’s equity market.
