Nepal PM meets Indian, Chinese envoys separately today

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 10 – Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah is scheduled to hold separate meetings with the ambassadors of India and China to Nepal on Monday, according to officials familiar with the programme.

The meetings will take place at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.

According to a source at Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Shah will first meet Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava at 11:00 am later in the day he is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese Ambassador Chen Song at 3:00 pm.

The government has not disclosed the agenda for either meeting and no official statement has been issued outlining the issues expected to be discussed.

The separate engagements come as Nepal maintains diplomatic engagement with its two immediate neighbours both of which are key development and strategic partners. India and China have longstanding political, economic and infrastructure ties with Nepal and high-level interactions between Nepali leaders and the two countries’ representatives are closely watched.

The Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are expected to provide updates following the meetings if any official decisions or agreements emerge.
