Jaishankar is expected to visit Kathmandu later this month to personally invite Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah to attend the upcoming BRICS summit, according to sources at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu. Jaishankar is scheduled to travel to Nepal during the final week of August with diplomatic engagements expected to coincide with an event hosted by Indian broadcaster NDTV in Kathmandu on August 26. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Foreign Affairs Department chief Vijay Chauthaiwale is also expected to visit the Nepali capital during the same period embassy sources said. The visit is expected to include high-level diplomatic meetings alongside the formal invitation for the BRICS gathering. Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” represented Nepal at the previous BRICS Summit where he held a joint meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the summit. The Indian Embassy has not officially announced the visit or the invitation.
