New Delhi [India], August 15 – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled a new seven-point development vision describing the framework as “Shaktiko Saptadhara” or the “seven streams of strength” to advance India’s goals of becoming a developed and self-reliant nation.
Addressing the country from New Delhi’s Red Fort on India’s 80th Independence Day, Modi presented the seven areas he said would help take India to a new level over the next five to seven years.
The framework covers manufacturing, agriculture and food security, technology and innovation, mobility and infrastructure, defence, the green and blue economy, and soft power.
During his roughly 75-minute address Modi highlighted the government’s achievements while outlining its economic and strategic priorities for the coming years.
He placed particular emphasis on increasing domestic production of defence equipment, expanding electricity generation, strengthening the semiconductor industry and developing nuclear energy.
Modi also highlighted efforts to ensure affordable fertiliser for Indian farmers despite shortages in global markets.
The prime minister said India’s development strategy would focus on greater self-reliance in defence, energy, technology and manufacturing.
He also spoke about progress towards building a “Naxal-free India” and reiterated the country’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
The address marked Modi’s 13th consecutive Independence Day speech from the Red Fort.
Through the seven-pillar framework, Modi sought to link India’s economic ambitions with technological development, national security, sustainability and its growing influence abroad.
