Speaking during Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Acharya called on the government to begin preparations immediately to enable Nepalis residing around the world to participate in the local polls. “I want to draw the government’s attention to this issue and urge it to start work from today on whatever is necessary to allow Nepalis around the world to vote in this local election,” he said. Acharya said the government should treat the issue as a priority and make the necessary legal and administrative arrangements before the election. The RSP has previously been advocating voting rights for Nepalis living abroad during past elections. The party has repeatedly called for a mechanism that would allow citizens residing overseas to exercise their franchise without having to return home to vote.
