Kathmandu [Nepal], September 8 – The United States, the United Kingdom and Japan have extended greetings to Nepal on the occasion of the country’s first Gen Z Martyrs’ Day paying tribute to young people who lost their lives during last year’s movement.
The embassies of the three countries in Nepal shared messages on social media on Tuesday expressing support for the aspirations of Nepal’s younger generation.
The US Embassy said it respected Nepali youths’ aspirations for a prosperous and promising future and described the commemoration as taking place while communities around the world mourn alongside Nepal following the recent devastating floods.
The British Embassy paid tribute to the young people who died during the movement and expressed condolences to their families, saying Britain stood with the people of Nepal.
The Japanese Embassy said the hopes and aspirations of Nepal’s young generation would not be forgotten. It also said Japan respected the Nepali people’s continued efforts to uphold democracy, freedom, inclusion and social justice under the Constitution.
The government has declared Tuesday a public holiday to commemorate those who died during the Gen Z movement.
