Kathmandu [Nepal], September 9 – A landslide has blocked the Kimrung River a tributary of the Modi River in Parbat district raising the risk of a sudden increase in water flow downstream.
The Flood Forecasting Division issued an alert on Wednesday evening, warning that water levels could rise at any time following the blockage.
The division has urged residents in downstream areas to remain alert and move to safer locations until further notice.
Residents in the downstream areas extending to the Kali Gandaki confluence including Nayapul, Birethanti and surrounding settlements have been asked to relocate to safe places as a precaution.
“Since a landslide has blocked the Kimrung River residents of downstream areas up to the Kali Gandaki confluence including Nayapul, Birethanti and surrounding settlements are requested to move to safe locations until further notice,” the division said in its alert.
Authorities have warned that the blocked river could cause a sudden rise in water flow if accumulated water is released abruptly.
Residents in the potentially affected areas have been advised to stay vigilant and follow further instructions from authorities.
