Kathmandu [Nepal], September 9 – A total of 1,367 bodies have been retrieved so far following devastating flash floods that struck the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems the as search and rescue operations continue across several districts.
Wednesday marks the 16th day since the disaster. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the recovered bodies were collected from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Tanahu, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East and Nawalparasi West.
NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 102 bodies have so far been identified and handed over to their families.
The official number of people listed as missing are 5,132. The missing include 45 Nepali Army personnel, 25 Nepal Police personnel, 12 Armed Police Force personnel, 73 government employees and 26 employees of banks and financial institutions. The list also includes around 589 foreign tourists.
Security personnel have intensified search and rescue operations in the affected areas as authorities continue efforts to locate those still missing.
So far, 13,646 people have been rescued while 3,628 displaced people are staying at holding centres in Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa and Kathmandu.
Authorities said 7,151 people have received medical treatment following the disaster.
