Nepal Parliament panel to assess Rasuwa flood impact

Kathmandu [Nepal], September 9 – Nepal’s House of Representatives Finance Committee has formed a seven-member sub-committee to study the impact of the Rasuwa flood on the country’s economy and examine issues related to climate finance.

The sub-committee coordinated by lawmaker Sushila Khadka was formed during a meeting of the Finance Committee at Singha Durbar on Wednesday.

Narendra Kumar Kerung, Parashu Ram Tamang, Dr Pushpa Raj Kandel, Lima Adhikari, Pushpa Chaudhary and Sushant Vaidik are members of the sub-committee.

Finance Committee Chair Dr Krishna Hari Budhathoki said the sub-committee has been tasked with assessing the economic impact of the Rasuwa flood and studying issues linked to climate change and climate finance.

The sub-committee has been directed to submit its report by September 18, Budhathoki said.

The parliamentary initiative comes as authorities continue to assess the broader consequences of the flood, including its potential effects on economic activity and the country’s response to climate-related risks.
