Kathmandu [Nepal], September 11 – At least 1,385 people have been confirmed dead after the Bhotekoshi floods that struck on August 26, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
The authority said as of 11 am Friday that 364 bodies had been recovered in Chitwan, 228 in Nawalparasi East, 222 in Nawalparasi West, 185 in Rasuwa, 199 in Nuwakot, 70 in Dhading, 77 in Gorkha and 38 in Tanahun.
Two other people died while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
According to the NDRRMA, 5,130 people remain missing following the floods while 13,676 people have been rescued so far.
A total of 337 people are currently receiving treatment at 19 hospitals while 261 others have been discharged.
Meanwhile, 37 holding centres are sheltering displaced people. Of those 2,615 are staying in Nuwakot, 775 in Rasuwa and 295 in Dhading.
The NDRRMA said 21,022 security personnel from the Nepal Police, Nepali Army and Armed Police Force have been mobilised for search and rescue operations.
Among the damaged bridges an ACRO bridge has been installed at Devighat in Nuwakot allowing traffic to resume.
