Kathmandu [Nepal], September 11 – Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has appointed Bishwajit Parajuli as his humanitarian affairs adviser, the Ministry of Finance said.
Parajuli was appointed as an honorary adviser by a ministerial decision on September 10 with his tenure running until the end of November.
The ministry said the short-term appointment was made to support humanitarian-related work that it needs to undertake following the Bhotekoshi floods.
Parajuli has extensive experience working with the United Nations and the ministry believes his expertise will be useful in Nepal’s post-disaster humanitarian relief, rehabilitation, disaster risk reduction and management efforts.
According to the ministry, his experience is expected to help make humanitarian operations more effective in the aftermath of the disaster.
The appointment comes as authorities continue to deal with the humanitarian consequences of the Bhotekoshi floods which caused widespread loss of life and damage in several districts.
Finance Minister Wagle handed Parajuli his appointment letter and wished him a successful tenure.
The appointment is for a limited period and is honorary meaning Parajuli will serve without remuneration.
The ministry said his role will focus on supporting humanitarian work related to the flood response and post-disaster needs.
