Kathmandu [Nepal], September 17 – The government has spent around Rs 200 billion in the first two months of the current fiscal year 2026-27, according to the Financial Comptroller General Office.
Government expenditure reached Rs 199.83 billion as of September 16 accounting for 9.41 percent of the total annual budget target.
Of the Rs 1,270.58 billion allocated for recurrent expenditure this fiscal year the government has spent about 9 percent so far.
Capital expenditure remains significantly lower. The government has allocated Rs 431.10 billion for capital spending but only Rs 7.66 billion or 1.78 percent of the allocation has been spent during the period.
Spending under financial management has reached 16.59 percent. Of the Rs 422.64 billion allocated for financial management in the current fiscal year, Rs 70.13 billion has been spent, according to the Office.
The figures show that most government spending during the first two months has gone toward recurrent expenditure and financial management while capital expenditure has remained limited.
The government’s total spending represents less than 10 percent of its annual budget target despite two months having passed since the beginning of the fiscal year.
