गृहपृष्ठ ∕ Breaking ∕ Finance Minister seeks $1 Billion World Bank support Breaking Finance Minister seeks $1 Billion World Bank support KathmanduPati October 06, 2026 Kathmandu [Nepal], October 5 – Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has held talks with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga in Washington seeking to mobilize nearly $1 billion to support reconstruction, economic reforms, insurance and social protection. Wagle, who travelled to the United States at Banga’s invitation discussed the reconstruction of physical and economic infrastructure damaged by the recent Bhotekoshi River floods along with broader macroeconomic reforms. According to Wagle’s secretariat, Banga expressed condolences over the flood losses and pledged significant World Bank support for reconstruction. He also praised the government’s efforts toward policy and institutional reforms and stressed the need to expand infrastructure investment and create jobs domestically. Banga said the World Bank would launch a new initiative to expand joint investment in priority areas by coordinating with development partners including the Asian Development Bank and International Finance Corporation. World Bank Country Director for Nepal David Sislen said it was the first direct bilateral meeting between a World Bank president and Nepal’s finance minister in three decades.
