Kathmandu [Nepal], October 7 – The Nepal Red Cross Society will provide cash assistance of Rs1,00,000 to each family affected by the Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi flood.
Jagan Chapagain, secretary-general and chief executive officer of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) announced the assistance during a visit to the flood-affected areas.
The Nepal Red Cross and the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens have reached an agreement to provide the assistance through the “Samunnati Programme”.
An estimated 6,000 families have been affected by the disaster. The Red Cross said beneficiaries will be identified based on data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority with the cash deposited directly into their bank accounts.
Priority will be given to women-headed households, people with disabilities, senior citizens, children requiring special care and marginalised and vulnerable families.
The Red Cross said it has continued humanitarian assistance since the Bhotekoshi flood on August 26 including relief distribution, water and sanitation services, shelter support, mental health assistance and protection services.
The cash support is aimed at helping affected households meet immediate needs as recovery efforts continue.
