Kathmandu [Nepal], October 7 – Senior Policy Advisor at Switzerland’s Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM), Isabelle Lois has invited Nepal to participate in the AI Global Summit 2027 scheduled to be held in Switzerland on June 21-22.
Lois extended the invitation during a meeting with Minister for Information and Communications Dr Bikram Timilsina on Wednesday. The two sides discussed expanding cooperation in information technology and related areas.
Timilsina expressed gratitude for Switzerland’s support in various sectors and said Nepal was prioritising digital transformation while creating an environment conducive to investment in the technology sector.
Lois also sought Nepal’s views and priorities for the upcoming AI summit and discussed the country’s potential participation in the Freedom Online Coalition.
Nepal’s possible role as an observer in the coalition was also discussed, according to officials.
The Freedom Online Coalition currently comprises 42 member states and works to advance internet freedom, freedom of expression, privacy and online rights.
The meeting comes as Nepal seeks to expand international cooperation in digital technology and strengthen its engagement in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and digital governance.
