Nepal PM urges unity and action against corruption

Kathmandu [Nepal], October 21 – Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah has called for national unity and collective efforts to eliminate corruption, poor governance, bureaucratic delays, inequality and political disorder in his message marking Bada Dashain the country’s biggest festival.

Extending greetings to Nepalis at home and abroad, Shah wished them happiness, peace, prosperity and continued progress on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami.

He said Dashain brings together people from different communities, regions and backgrounds strengthening harmony in Nepal’s geographically, culturally and linguistically diverse society. The festival also provides an opportunity for families and friends separated for years to reunite and renew their bonds, he added.

Shah urged citizens to work together to address the country’s challenges and ensure that every citizen feels supported by the government. He stressed that meaningful change requires not only a shift in thinking but also changes in individual behaviour.

Highlighting the tradition of receiving tika, jamara and blessings from elders the prime minister said the festival inspires people to overcome evil and pursue good deeds.

He also urged people to rise above greed, jealousy, violence, discrimination and ego and to celebrate according to their means while promoting mutual respect, love and goodwill.
