Nepal urges US to boost investment and cooperation on climate disasters

Kathmandu [Nepal], Oct 26 – Nepal has called on the United States to strengthen investment and economic ties beyond traditional grant assistance as Speaker DP Aryal met a visiting US congressional delegation on Monday.

The delegation, led by Jason Smith, chair of the US House of Representatives’ Ways and Means Committee, discussed Nepal-US relations, economic cooperation, climate-related disasters and parliamentary ties, according to the Speaker’s Secretariat.

Aryal said Nepal was making efforts to manage the aftermath of floods in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river system and thanked the US for its support.

He also called for stronger international cooperation to reduce losses from climate-related disasters, improve preparedness and build resilience in vulnerable areas. He said countries with greater economic and technical capacity should provide responsible support.

Aryal said Nepal would pursue policy and legal reforms to create a more investment-friendly environment and build investor confidence.

The US delegation expressed condolences to those affected by the floods and said it wanted to continue supporting Nepal’s economic, social, infrastructure and humanitarian development while strengthening parliamentary ties.
