Kathmandu [Nepal], November 5 – Nepali rock band 1974 AD is set to perform in Canada for the first time, bringing its popular music to Toronto on November 6 while pledging to support flood victims in Nepal.
The band will perform at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto offering an opportunity for Nepali music fans living in Canada to experience its music live.
Known for popular songs such as Parelima, Sambodhan and Pahilo Junima the band has maintained a strong following among Nepali audiences over the years.
Band founder Nirakar Yakthumba said the Canadian performance would be an important occasion particularly for Nepalis living abroad for whom music often brings back memories of home.
Singer Adrian Pradhan said the band’s songs had a special connection with Nepalis living overseas particularly those who had moved abroad for education and employment.
Firoj Syangden said the concert would bring together generations of listeners from those who grew up listening to the band’s music to younger audiences.
The performance will also have a charitable purpose. Band manager Anuj KC said three Canadian dollars from every ticket sold would be allocated to relief efforts for families affected by floods in Nepal.
He said the initiative combined entertainment with social responsibility and offered overseas Nepalis an opportunity to support people back home.
The band currently has six members.
