President Bhandari inaugurated the reconstructed Rani Pokhari five years after the earthquakes in 2015 destroyed the 350-year old temple located at the center of Rani Pokhari. The National Reconstruction Authority had rebuilt the Balgopaleswor temple, which is situated in the middle of Rani Pokhari, in its old Malla-era architectural style. Rani Pokhari was destroyed by the earthquake on April 25, 2015. The completion of the reconstruction of Rani Pokhari also marks a milestone in the reconstruction of hundreds of heritage sites that were damaged by the 2015 earthquakes. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel and other senior ministers were also present in the inaugural ceremony. According to the officials of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office, the Balgopaleshwor Temple inside Rani Pokhari will remain open to the public during Tihar festival this year. The temple is open to the public only on the day of Bhai Tika of Tihar festival. However, it was closed for five years as the temple was under reconstruction.
