KATHMANDU – Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the spokesperson of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), has said that the current need is to protect the party unity. He said that the rank and file of the party does not hold much expectation from the leadership at this moment except than protecting the party unity.
“We have to maintain the party unity. There is not a big expectation for the protection of unity. The unity can be protected if we run the party based on system and procedure and follow and implement the party decisions,” he said.
He said that current intra party disputes can be addressed through dialogues.
“Definitely there are internal disagreements in the party in terms of thoughts, ideologies, concept of organizational structure and party operation. The current disputes could be related to these issues. However, we have not started the ideological discussion in the party. However, the current disputes are mainly about whether we accept the party decisions and implement them,” he said.
The statement of the NCP Spokesperson comes in the wake of the recent intra-party rift in the NCP that threatens to split the ruling party even before the completion of its unification process that begun in 2017.
“We all need self-reflection and to make a commitment that we accept the party decisions and implement them. This will protect the party unity. We can then move ahead to hold the party convention,” said Shrestha, who is also a standing committee member of the main ruling NCP.
