NCP holding standing committee meeting amid widening intra-party dispute

Leaders making efforts to find consensus between two rival factions before the standing committee meeting

KATHMANDU – Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is holding its standing committee meeting today. Some of the leaders in the party have intensified efforts to find consensus before the meeting.

Subhash Nembwang, a leader close to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, is holding talks with party’s executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today before the standing committee meeting.

Earlier on Saturday, Shankar Pokharel, another leader close to Oli, met Prachanda. According to a party source, he proposed Prachanda to end the current intra-party dispute to work together.

He also emphasized the need to move ahead in line with the agreement between two chairmen on Bhadra 26. During the meeting, he also informed Prachanda that Oli will participate in the standing committee meeting.

Prachanda reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the Prime Minister’s preparation to make appointments in constitutional bodies. Both factions of Oli and Prachanda are holding their own meeting. However, there has not been any meeting between Oli and Prime Minister Oli since last Wednesday.

Oli has been adamant on his stance that he wouldn’t quit any of the both posts until the party’s general convention while Prachanda has been demanding that Oli should resign from the post of either Prime Minister or party chairman.

Though the last NCP standing committee meeting had concluded with agreement to resolve the intra-party dispute, both sides have not budged from their own stance.
