Kathmandu- Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi has met President Bidya Devi Bhandari. According to a source close to the President, Chinese Ambassador reached President Bhandari’s official residence Shital Niwas at 6 pm and stayed there for nearly one hour.
The meeting of the Chinese ambassador with the President comes amid a deepening political crisis in Nepal.
The recent decision of the government to dissolve the parliament and set dates for midterm elections has not only caused public uproar, but also sends the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) toward the path of split.
According to a source at the Chinese embassy, the Chinese Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the President that was set a week ago.
During the meeting, Chinese Ambassador Yanqi and President Bhandari reportedly discussed providing Chinese Covid vaccine to Nepal.
Chinese Ambassador Yanqi is also said to have asked for an appointment of NCP Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
