KATHMANDU – The Office of the President is sending a written clarification to the Supreme Court on the case of dissolution of the House of Representatives.
According to a source at Shital Niwas, the Office of the President has already completed legal consultations, and plans to send its written clarification today.
Earlier on December 25, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court had issued a show-cause notice to the Office of the President and Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister (OPMCM) over the dissolution of the House of Representatives.
Following a hearing of petitioners, the five-member Constitutional Bench headed by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana had ordered the government to submit a written clarification within five working days on why the House was dissolved.
Similarly, the OPMCM is also sending its written clarification and other documents today as sought by the court.
Nearly a dozen petitions have been filed at the apex court demanding the annulment of the government decision to dissolve the parliament and set dates for midterm election.
Earlier on December 20, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had recommended President Bidya Devi Bhandari to dissolve the House and set dates for midterm elections. The recommendation was approved by the President on the same day.
