KATHMANDU: The government has decided to nominate career diplomats as ambassadors to three countries.
The cabinet meeting held on Monday picked three career diplomats as the new envoys to Belgium, Pakistan and Germany.
According to the cabinet decision, Gehendra Raj Bhandari, a Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been nominated as the envoy to Belgium while another Joint Secretary, Tapas Adhikari, has been chosen as the ambassador to Pakistan.
Likewise, the government has chosen Ram Kaji Khadka, another Joint Secretary, as the ambassador to Germany.
Each of the appointment will be subject to endorsements from the Parliamentary Hearing Committee following a confirmation hearing of each nominee.
Bhandari is currently the Chief of the Protocol Division while Adhikari and Khadka are Chiefs of the Southeast Asia and the Pacific Division, and the Department of Passport, respectively.
The government, however, did not select Joint Secretary Nirmal Raj Kafle as an envoy to any foreign mission, although he had been in line along with the others to become an ambassador on the basis of his seniority.
The cabinet decision has not been made public yet.
