KATHMANDU: The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has condemned the police\u2019s misbehavior with Dr. Govinda KC, as shown on a video that recently surfaced on social media.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Saturday, the NMA, an umbrella organization of medical and dental doctors in the country, stated that its attention had been brought to the police\u2019s recent obstructions of Dr. KC, who had reached Jumla to treat patients there.<\/p>\n
According to reports, the police had been barring him from leaving his house, citing that he had been living in and going to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
NMA termed the police\u2019s behavior \u201cunusual and inhuman,\u201d stating that Dr. KC, a long-term campaigner for medical education and health sector reform in the country, had been continuously providing healthcare to people in remote areas as his professional duty .<\/p>\n
\u201cNMA demands that these unusual and inhuman treatments of putting a doctor under security cordon, preventing the movement and restricting the contact with people are immediately stopped,\u201d read the statement made by the NMA.<\/p>\n
In the video that has been widely circulated on social media, police are seen trying to prevent Dr. KC from leaving the house he has been staying in, citing that they received a \u2018high-level order\u2019 to do so.<\/p>\n
Since the video surfaced on social media, the police\u2019s misbehaviour has prompted huge backlash.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven Dr. Govinda KC does not get respect! What do you expect, when the country is ruled by morons!\u201d Kapil Dhakal wrote in a tweet.<\/p>\n
Dr. KC has staged 18 hunger strikes in an attempt to put pressure on the government to undertake various medical education and health sector reforms.<\/p>\n
