Kathmandu – Nepal and Switzerland on Wednesday held the fifth round of their Bilateral Consultation Mechanism in Kathmandu, with discussions ranging from economic priorities and governance reforms to climate cooperation and development partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting came at a symbolic moment for both countries as Nepal and Switzerland mark 70 years of diplomatic relations this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials from both sides reviewed the broader state of bilateral ties and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation across key sectors, according to Nepal\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the talks, Nepal briefed the Swiss delegation on the country\u2019s latest political and economic developments including the priorities of the current government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Discussions focused on governance reforms, anti-corruption efforts, transparency, digital transformation and improving public service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nepal also highlighted its push to expand hydropower generation, strengthen transmission infrastructure, boost tourism and develop the information technology sector as part of its broader economic agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting also reflected on Switzerland\u2019s long-standing role in Nepal\u2019s development journey. Over the decades, Swiss support has extended across areas ranging from trail bridge construction and community forestry to technical education, migration governance and disaster resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nepal sought continued and enhanced Swiss cooperation in line with the government\u2019s development priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues, including climate change and cooperation in multilateral forums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Nepali delegation was led by Joint Secretary and Head of the Europe Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ganesh Prasad Dhakal while the Swiss side was headed by Markus Leitner, Head of the Asia and Pacific Division at Switzerland\u2019s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Swiss Ambassador to Nepal Dr. Danielle Meuwly and other senior officials from the Swiss foreign ministry were also part of the delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
