Kathmandu – Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP ) chair Rabi Lamichhane is weighing more than 100 recommendations for just 51 Central Committee nomination slots after the party’s newly elected Central Committee deferred appointments to him, setting the stage for a crucial round of decisions on the party’s leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recommendation lists have poured in from several groups that joined the RSP during its expansion including leaders associated with Bibeksheel Sajha, supporters of Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah, Tharu representatives and Dalit groups. According to party leaders, Lamichhane has begun consulting leaders from different groups as he seeks to strike a balance in the appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the party statute, the chair can nominate up to 51 Central Committee members. However, party leaders said more than 100 names have already been recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At its first meeting on Wednesday, the newly elected Central Committee decided not to fill the remaining positions in the Central Committee, Secretariat or among the party’s office bearers, leaving the appointments to Lamichhane under powers granted by the party statute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya said the meeting did not discuss nominations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the newly elected committee at the party’s central office in Kathmandu, Lamichhane said the party’s first general convention had strengthened unity and stressed that there was no room for factionalism or mistrust within the RSP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also sought to reassure leaders awaiting appointments, saying the selection process would reflect inclusion and representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I am preparing the appointments in my own way. Those who deserve to be included will not be left out,” Lamichhane said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Appointments will be made with due consideration to inclusion and representation. Leaders from different communities, languages, cultures and backgrounds will be brought in. I am determined to make the Rastriya Swatantra Party a common garden for everyone. Please do not worry about the appointments. I will uphold the spirit of inclusiveness.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, Lamichhane administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly elected Central Committee members and presented them with commemorative plaques bearing the party’s election symbol, the bell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
