The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday outlined its achievements during the government’s first 100 days in office, saying it aligned its work with the government’s goal of improving governance and service delivery through simplified, transparent, accountable, efficient and technology-friendly services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ministry’s 100-day accomplishments report, major initiatives included the launch of the MoFA App to assist Nepalis facing problems abroad and the expansion of the Department of Consular Services’ online legal consultation service to all districts and 537 local levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry said it helped resolve issues related to temporary residence permits for Nepalis in Portugal, rescued 819 Nepalis trapped in online scamming operations in Southeast Asia, secured amnesty for 128 Nepalis imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates and 33 in Saudi Arabia, and facilitated the resumption of stalled tea exports to India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report also highlighted the formation of a 24-hour emergency rescue task force following the West Asia conflict. Through the task force, 1,047 Nepalis facing crises were brought home, according to the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other measures included introducing a new passport system, scheduled to begin on July 13, conducting mobile passport distribution camps in various countries and working with local administrations and postal departments to deliver passports to people’s doorsteps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry said it coordinated two diplomatic engagements in Kathmandu. According to the report, ambassadors and chiefs of mission jointly paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Balendra Shah on April 8 followed by another courtesy call by the European Union and some ambassadors and chiefs of mission on May 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry said economic diplomacy remained a priority during the period, with efforts focused on strengthening economic cooperation with partner countries. It said programmes and policies were aligned to identify areas of mutual benefit while export trade, foreign aid, investment, tourism promotion and information technology development were pursued in line with Nepal’s national interest. Nepali missions abroad were also directed to support these efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report said the government moved to postpone Nepal’s scheduled graduation from the category of Least Developed Countries to middle-income country status. Although graduation was scheduled for November 24, 2026, the government requested a schedule deferral by November 29, citing evolving national and international economic and political circumstances. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs formally submitted the proposal to the Chair of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy on May 13, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the 100-day period, the government also held a virtual meeting with senior officials from the United Kingdom on long-standing issues concerning former British Gurkha personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Foreign Minister Khanal attended the Ninth Indian Ocean Conference in Mauritius on April 10, where the ministry said Nepal highlighted connectivity, maritime access, regional cooperation and partnerships from the perspective of a landlocked country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nepal also held bilateral consultation meetings with Romania, Norway, Switzerland, Egypt and Denmark during the reporting period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry said the government continued efforts to ensure foreign employment for Nepali workers is safe, dignified and secure. Labour agreements have already been concluded with 13 countries. The report also said efforts are underway to promote Nepal’s soft power through cultural and diplomatic initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ministry, the United Nations endorsed Nepal’s proposal to designate April 15 as International Arogya (Wellness) Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report also highlighted the signing of an agreement on April 24 to repatriate 800-year-old Nepali manuscripts from Heidelberg University in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amending the Non-Resident Nepali Act was identified as another government priority to better utilise the skills, investment and networks of the Nepali diaspora.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry also highlighted the launch of an internship and fellowship programme through the Foreign Affairs Study Institute and said ambassadorial applications were opened to the public for the first time. Nearly 3,000 applications have been received and are under review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the report, Nepali missions abroad are also promoting formal remittance channels to discourage informal money transfer systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government further said more than 12 foreign visits to Nepal by friendly countries were successfully conducted during the period, contributing to stronger bilateral relations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
